Laser PTK

LASER PTK

There is now a new technique to remove the scar tissue from the cornea by using a therapeutic application of excimer laser in the management of anterior corneal diseases. This procedure is called phototherapeutic keratectomy, also known as PTK. This laser can treat a variety of corneal disorders such as corneal degenearations, dystrophies, corneal irregularities and superficial scars. PTK may minimize tissue removal and surgical trauma.  The smoother the stromal surface is achieved by the excimer laser, then the surface of the cornea will be smoother which improves the postoperative corneal clarity and decrease postoperative scarring. If you have a corneal condition, ask an ophthalmologist at Anderson and Shapiro Eye Center to see if PTK is right for you.
