Fuchs’ dystrophy is an uncommon disorder that affects the cornea.  Fuchs dystrophy is a type of corneal dystrophy which is a group of conditions that may cause a hazy deposit build up over the cornea.  Usually, the cells that line the back surface of the cornea prevent excess fluid from accumulating and this helps the cornea maintain transparency.  With Fuchs’ dystrophy, the endothelial cells deteriorate, lose function, and die.  This creates the build up in the cornea and it causes swelling, cloudy vision, pain, and loss of corneal transparency.
